This is my Bowgun! There are many others like it, but this one is mine!

While Youtube has certainly allowed me to spread knowledge and fun about Monser Hunter, the video format can sometimes obscure the thought process I go through when planning sets. I mentioned a long time ago that I had put together a excel spreadsheet listing ideal rapid elemental bowguns. Having set up this blog, I figure it's as ideal a place as any to show this listing off.

I've gone ahead and added a number of other standard bowgun types as well, primarily normal 2 and pierce 1.

I'm not going to assume anything about people's armor sets, so I figure a good companion sheet would give some ideas about how to outfit yourself:

For the first three sets we're going for the most basic approach possible: Basic damage output. Of course, the greatest weakness of the rapid fire elemental set isn't so much the damage output, but the ability to recover quickly from the 4 shots and recoil you're going to have. Strong status support to immobilize the monster a good ability to aim is essential. Otherwise, consider finding using the lagiacrus set gemmed with evasion instead.

To be honest, the set I'd recommend first to most people gunning would be some variation of the pierce shot set. Why? Learning to gun with adrenaline on can be frustrating and embarrassing. In high rank (or greater!), you're looking at the possibility of being killed in one attack by many monsters.

At first, you'll likely find yourself shooting shots in a very paranoid matter, staring down the monster in a frenzy. However, over time, your observations of the monster will make you a better gunner. Hunt after hunt, you should learn the moments of opportunity for you to fire. Not only this, but you'll gradually adjust your positioning such that you get the range multiplier for pierce shots (about 3-5 rolls away).

This experience will open you up to the rapid fire elemental bowguns, which allow for greater flexibility in range, but less in monster openings.

I hope this blog can serve as a great supplement to my youtube channel. Thanks for visiting!

That's really helpful to know! Would it be possible for you to do one for Portable 3rd as well?

Epic, no worries, I could tell you weren't just being overly enthusiastic. As for your question, there are already really good weapon trees out there:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/943655-monster-hunter-tri/faqs

and for MHP3rd

http://www.mhf3.com/page/Weapons

BenReaver, guns work differently in 3rd, as you could probably tell. You have only light or heavy bowguns, and respectively rapid fire/siege mode. It doesn't require nearly as much planning as Tri does!

Yeah, it's just realising which armour set works well, I'm guessing for Fire shots it would be a Fire Attack up set for example.

I think it's Ingot which gives Normal S+ and Normal Up, could be quite useful, might give expert as well.

GLORIOUS

I was just wondering why you didn't have a site where you could expand on certain topics beyond various tutorials/LP videos and BAM, you make a blog.

Keep up the good work!

Oh, forgot to mention my own input.

There's an amazing endgame pierce gun in Tri that uses Devil's Grin Barrel, Thundercrus Rex Frame, and the Chaos Wing stock. Vampirecosmonaut from GameFAQs affectionately called it the Angry Tadpole (I mean just look at it).

Loads a good amount of Pierce shots that can be expanded with Pierce Lv1 Up or Loading. More importantly, it's got beastly attack with the frame fully upgraded and loads 4 lvl 2 Para shots. With Recoil Down +2, you can be unloading those bad boys with no recoil. It also loads I think 1 lvl 2 sleep shot, exhaust shots, and 2 lvl 2 recovery shots, even more support! To top it all off, this gun is medium weight and comes with guard.

There are some options in terms of armor sets for this gun, I personally use the Diablos+ set (for Pierce Lv1 Up and Pierce Boost) with Ingot+ waist and leggings (for Recoil Down +2). You can use the LR Diablos chest if you can't be bothered with getting a Stout Horn (I didn't get my first one until after 350 hours of playtime). Uragaan parts also work but I like how Ingot matches because I like to style on monsters.

That setup is insane, has gotten me record times for the World Eater event quest and many others. Pierce DPS, on-demand para and sleep, with KO/healing support. I think I've harped on it enough.

I picked up gunning recently and man, between the customization and execution, it's a blast. And I have yet to use Rapid Fire element or Pellet setups extensively, currently experimenting with those in P3rd. If there's one thing I hate about gunning, it's farming all the right parts for an optimal setup.

Wow, this post is long!

My ultimate pierce bowgun for every monster
jaggid fire frame
jaggid fire barrel
thundacrus stock

7 pierce lvl 1 rapid fire
4 pierce lvl 2 rapid fire
Status: 4 sleep lvl 1
slots: 000
deviation: low L/R
reload:Average
recoil:Some
Range: 0.80
Medium bowgun
No folding
No shield
Affinity: 10 %
max attack: 276
I recommend diablos+ with something under it your choice.
The best waist and leg combo to my opinion is ura+ coat and ignot+ leggings.
Use your best precision tali and gem on steadiness+2 and recoil down+2, which isnt a problem because of the 3 slots.
this set is killing against every monster.

Hey, I'd like to share my new boom boom pierce set with everyone. Its all low rank and has Pierce Up, Pierce Lv1+ and Recoil Down +1. I use the aquamatic needler parts with the jaggid frame for decent pierce, sleep and explosive shots.
Some people like to use the uragaan waist and ingot legs to get recoil down, but I find that unattractive. I used Diablos Cap, Diablos Chest, Ingot Gloves, Ingot Waist and Uragaan boots for this set, its quite popular with the ladies. Here's how its gemmed.

This set is wonderful against Agnaktor.
